- Keep
it fresh! Your site needs to "earn
the trust" of the public, and you can only do that by proving
again and again that your site is updated immediately when "stuff
happens". Otherwise you will not save yourself from receiving
the usual number of phone calls as people would be wondering if
the site was updated or not.
- Promote
your "Breaking News" page on
game programs, school newsletters, notes in report cards, and
anywhere else that you think will help spread the word. Inform
the public that this is their "up to the minute source"
of information on cancellations and changes.
- Ask
your web administrator to make a "referring page"
that will link to the Breaking News. This referring page will
do nothing more than redirect the user to the kebtech.net site
where your Breaking News is located. The reason for this is that
you can direct the public to www.yourschool.k12.mn.us/activities
(or whatever name you choose), which will be more effective and
easier to remember than giving them the ww.kebtech.net/news/yourschool
web address, although both methods will work to bring up the site.
