DAY 5: At Sea
Thursday, Jan 17
Thursday, Jan 17
Nice relaxing sea day today! We had breakfast in the Park Cafe again in Central Park, and shortly after that I participated in a walking tour led by the Horticulturist that is in charge of all the plants in Central Park. Four people are employed full time taking care of the plants and trees. There are 12,000 plants in the park! I even learned some interesting facts about plants that couldn't survive the heat and how they have had to replace some varieties. Most of the trees are Black Olive trees that are very wind resistant. I also learned that one of the architectural features at the top of the ship serves as a wind break for Central Park but at the other end, the aft, there is nothing they can do about the Viking Crown Lounge catching the wind and causing a downdraft.
For lunch we went to the Dog House in the Boardwalk where they offer many varieties of hot dogs and sausages. We spent some time swimming - the water was so warm! - And after that we spent some time on the Sports Deck watching people attempt to surf at the FlowRider surfing simulator. And in preparation for Saturday's flash mob, I went to the 2nd of 3 classes to learn the steps.
Formal night tonight, and lobster was on the menu, but we both ordered the Prime Rib. Great as usual. The show tonight was what they call "Headliner Showtime" which I would describe as the more traditional type of cruise ship entertainment. The act featured a comic impersonator singer, and he did a great job, with lots of audience interaction.
Let's take a moment to respond to some fan mail from our readers.
Kelly from Corcoran, MN asks: "Hi Mom - Were you able to get video of the Aqua Show?"
Sorry Kelly, no. They made it very clear that there are copyright laws that prohibit any video recording.
Jeff from New Wilmington, PA writes: "My only complaint about the blog is that I cannot leave snarky comments."
Understood Jeff, understood. That is intentional.
Tomorrow: Cozumel
Some pics from today:

Walking around the pool deck, overlooking the Boardwalk.

The Johnny Rockets waiters do their dance for the crowd.

Looking at the kids' pools (plural).

Yum!
